Both Sides of the Bridge will be a feature length documentary about untold stories, the past being present, and a bridge that was a barrier. Through the oral testimonies of Black and White Flagler County residents who lived through the civil rights era, our film asks why painful history must be examined, and what a community loses when it isn’t.

Update 6/1/2026: We are thrilled to have reached our first milestone of $10,000 through the Florida Humanities Grant, in collaboration with the African American Cultural Society. This grant will allow us to enter Phase 1 of production, including more interviews with a professional crew and additional research funding.

Our Mission:

The mission of Both Sides of the Bridge is to preserve and promote the personal narratives of racially and culturally diverse Flagler County long-term residents.

Vision:

Since 1920, the Moody Bridge in Flagler County has stood as both a literal and symbolic divide. For some, it opened access to homes, jobs, and beachfront recreation. For other - especially residents of color - it represented exclusion, segregation, and barriers to opportunity.

Both Sides of the Bridge seeks to preserve the personal narratives of Flagler County's longtime residents, both Black and White, to illuminate how the bridge shaped community life throughout the twentieth century.

Through oral histories, we aim to acknowledge the past, foster understanding, and ensure every voice is values in building a more inclusive future.
