For over 20 years, The Box Shop has been a refuge for industrial artists in San Francisco: a place where monumental ideas become reality. We are a gritty, essential space where artists weld, grind, experiment, and build the awe-inspiring creations that define the Bay Area’s creative spirit. But these spaces are disappearing. It’s a heartbreakingly familiar story, and it’s a narrative we’re trying to change. The weird, wild, big art that makes this city special can only exist with a space to create it.

In the face of our forced relocation, we’re working hard to create The Box Shop’s new home at Van Dyke and build the sustainable structure that will keep this community alive for decades. We’ve secured the land, but turning an empty shell into a functional, world-class art space requires more than just walls. It requires tools, infrastructure, and safety equipment. Next year is make or break for The Box Shop as we build out and transition to our new space. It’s a rare moment where what happens next is still being shaped, and where your involvement truly matters.
