Black Podcasting Awards celebrates, spotlights, and bolsters Black podcasts for more wins and successes. We achieve this primarily by producing an annual awards program and ceremony. We also produce two newsletters year-round: BPAwardsWatch and New #Podcast Releases.

New #Podcast Releases (NPR) spotlights seven new Black podcasts. It's free and published each Wednesday in collaboration with BlkPodNews™. We have more than doubled its reach in our first year working together, with 2,900+ subscribers receiving it each week.

NPR was created to explore how we could provide additional exposure to dozens of podcasters easily and frugally. Because publicity/exposure is one of the most common requests we receive from our applicants. And independent podcasts (aka most podcasts) are barely seen in news & media headlines.

Receiving $500 monthly means you're helping promote 7 new Black podcasts EVERY WEEK across our social media accounts! And otherwise boosting the signal for Black podcasts, which are barely 1% of podcasts globally!!! Yet Black people are 13% of the global population.

Please know reaching this goal before August 28th puts Black Pod Awards in the running to win $1,000. Because Givebutter is running a contest for active & highly engaged campaigns run this Black Philanthropy Month (August 2024).

Black Philanthropy Month (BPM) is an annual global celebration and concerted campaign designed to advance funding equity for Black communities around the world. It was established to inspire and engage more individuals and organizations to join the movement towards equitable and impactful philanthropy. It takes place every August.

BPM is an important initiative for Black-led and Black-benefitting nonprofits because "less than 2% of funding by the nation's largest foundations is specifically targeted to the Black community". Even in the wake of increased awareness driven by the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, total funding explicitly allocated to Black organizations barely exceeded 2%, even though the Black population comprises over 13% of the total U.S. population. This disparity underscores the pressing need for equitable and representative investment in Black organizations and their communities. [from Giving Gap's State of Nonprofits Report: 2024, page 11]
