This is Pete! He was from an unmanaged colony/dump site in Chicago behind a big box parking lot. We took time with him and now he’s living happily indoors with a new kitty friend and playmate. This work takes time! While we cannot often say yes to cats who need a longer term stay, we absolutely do our very best to safely shelter and recover our guests, one cat at a time

I do realize it seems crazy to ask for donations for cats when I’m nearly homeless and the world is on fire, nonetheless I can’t help but be compelled to do something tangible to improve human and feline lives.

Not everyone is aware, but today the city (CACC) no longer intakes healthy stray cats due to budget cuts which leaves friendly, often abandoned cats to stay outside until they get injured or sick enough to warrant help.

Bleak.

Every day we do our small part to fill that gap, but we need funding.

Two cats have fallen into our care in the past couple weeks and they each have significant medical needs.

Meet Julius!

Julius is a sweet juvenile who was born on the street and socialized by the neighbors who fed him. Since many cats succumb to death by car in his neighborhood, we worked to get him neutered and he was happily adopted by a friend of the woman who trapped him. Unfortunately Julius was terrified during his first days living permanently indoors. We went to get him into a smaller space to try to help with his acclimation. He didn’t love being in the playpen, but he found his safe cave bed right away. The next morning we woke up to panicked messages that he wasn’t using his back legs, was being aggressive and seemed to be in pain.

We went to pick him up and took him to Oak Elm where he seemed to be walking okay, but did have a fever and had lost nearly a pound in just a week. We got him feeling better and now he’s gained back a whole pound in a week! He still seems a little unsteady at times, but he’s super loving and spent a good long time purring in a lap yesterday. Go Julius!

Meet Jack Silvio!

On March 12 we alerted the incredible Felines of Chicago community to a friendly cat who was clearly not doing well on the street. We found his feeders, sought fosters for weeks and after a spot finally opened at Cat’s Inn, we were able to get him safe indoors Sunday night. He went to Oak Elm on Monday morning and got labs and we learned he tested faint positive for FeLV, is in liver failure, anemic, and has a mouth full of rotten teeth. Our sweet Jack has quite an uphill battle and if he is able to recover, he will need a very expensive dental procedure to help him get healthy, along with neuter, and the list goes on…

If you can help our friends Jack Silvio and Julius, to cover their initial vet bills and get together funds for Jack’s future dental and sterilization surgeries so we can tackle the many intact colonies pumping out even more unwanted kittens, we would be grateful.

ABOUT US

Since the 50 Hoard of 2021, Cat’s Inn has recovered, sheltered and placed over 145 kitties. (Only 5 or so were from the 50 group

) Our founder has actually done even more as an individual, but she lost count of the cats who over-nighted and recovered elsewhere long ago. The 145 are the kitties who have spent at least one night with us at Cat’s Inn.

Our primary work is TNVR; Trap Neuter Vaccinate and Return to site simply because there aren’t enough homes for all the cats in need and our less socialized cats are healthier and happier living in managed outdoor colonies.

Sterilization surgeries, which do not always include vaccines, range in price. The lower the cost, the harder it is to get an appointment. Surgery for a feral or community cat can cost $15 or as much as $60, $80-100. For friendly cats the cost is closer to $175/$200. Per cat. Those costs don’t include food or litter to provide for these cats while they wait for surgery or are in recovery.

For the friendly cats, we recover and foster them in a communal space, providing decompression time, attention, vet care and a patient routine, before placing them with one of our partner rescues who promote and get them adopted into safe and loving homes.

Cuddly Do Right and Cat’s Inn share a vision of a more controlled and careful support of outdoor cats that also aims to answer concerns about potential neglect of colony cats placed for rodent abatement, and excessive bird predation worries.

I hope that the kindness and comfort we’ve given our guests at the Inn is sustained for the rest of their days and that the trust they’ve grown with us is respected for as long as they live.

We can only hope and keep moving forward toward our goals.
