Bringing Arts Back to Harlem
There is a building on Hancock Place in Harlem that once rang with the sounds of sirens and sacrifice. A firehouse โ built to protect this community โ that now stands ready for a new kind of calling.
We believe that building was always meant to hold something powerful.
New Harlem Renaissance was born from a simple truth: Harlem's greatest resource has never been its real estate. It's been its people. Its artists. Its elders who remember. Its young people who are still becoming. And right now, too many of them have nowhere to go โ no stage, no studio, no space that says "you belong here, and what you create matters."
That's why we're bringing the Firehouse Theater to life.
We are working to acquire and transform 4 & 6 Hancock Place into a permanent home for the arts in Harlem โ a living, breathing cultural institution where:
๐ฅ Youth find their voice through podcast engineering, media production, and digital storytelling
๐ Adults come home to themselves through dance, theater, and movement โ because creativity doesn't have an age limit
๐จ Visual and multimedia artists of every background have a professional space to create, exhibit, and be seen
๐ญ The community gathers โ for performances, open mics, workshops, residencies, and the kind of connection that only the arts can create
This is not just a building. This is a declaration โ that Harlem's renaissance didn't end in the 1920s. It never stopped. And we refuse to let this generation be the one that loses the space to prove it.
New Harlem Renaissance will call the Firehouse Theater home. And from that home, we will serve every corner of this community โ children in our after-school programs, teenagers building careers in media, adults returning to the art forms they gave up too soon, and elders whose stories deserve to be performed, recorded, and remembered.
We are raising $6,000,000 to make this vision real โ to acquire the Firehouse, renovate it for community use, and fund the programs that will fill it with life for generations to come.
Harlem gave the world a Renaissance once. Help us give it another
