1,000 South Bronx neighbors fed so far. Help us keep going.
We've been organizing mutual aid in the Bronx for years. This spring, at our neighbors' request, we went weekly. Every Saturday, no matter what.
In our first month, we fed over 1,000 neighbors on almost no budget, out of our own pockets and kitchens.
Imagine what we could do with real support.
What we do every Saturday:
Hot meals, cooked fresh
Fresh produce, fruits, vegetables
Clothing for men, women, children
Shoes, jackets, winter gear
Survival supplies: tents, sleeping bags, blankets
Toiletries and hygiene
Harm reduction, including Narcan
Books for kids and adults
All free. No questions asked. No paperwork. No ID required.
Where we are now:
We've met every need so far, but we're at our limit. Everything we distribute is stored in our own homes: folding tables against bedroom walls, bags of clothes in hallways, boxes of produce in kitchens. Organizers are covering supplies out of pocket. Volunteers are buying ingredients with their own food stamps to keep the hot food running.
We need a storage space near the park and we need help covering the weekly costs.
What it costs:
Storage: $300/month
Hot food: $65/week
Water (100+ bottles): $50/week
Supplies (bags, plates, gloves, trays): $135/week
Gas for pickup runs: $50/week
About $1,500/month. We're raising $5,000 to cover the next three months plus a summer cushion.
The best way to help: give monthly. Monthly donors are how we plan past next Saturday.
Any amount, one-time or monthly, keeps this running.
