One of the many sobering challenges brought on by the pandemic is the massive education disparity within our underserved communities specifically around lack of technology and access. This "Digital Divide" has been a challenge in under-resourced communities for years but has been exacerbated by COVID. I'm proud that Big Shoulders Fund is working actively to mitigate that divide and couldn't be prouder that EY is leading the way to address this divide and has kickstarted BSF's efforts with a $25,000 matching gift.
I'm hopeful you'll join me to ensure the 72 schools serving 20,000 students across Chicago that BSF supports receive essential hardware/software, adequate high-speed internet service, and technology training/professional development.
This is personal: I'm asking for Mariah, Jasmine and Kaziah - the three students I've mentored for four years at St. Malachy on Chicago's southwest side. I'm asking for the students my David teaches the Stock Market Program to on a monthly basis at Holy Angels. I'm asking for Mia who David & me are sponsoring to attend a summer camp. I'm asking for the family at Leo High School that we adopted at Christmas time. I'm asking for the 20,000 students who need your help. Please join me.
I promise I have skin in the game and will honor your donation: I serve on the Executive Committee of BSF's Chairmen’s Advisory Council (CAC), I helped start their D&I committee that I co-chair, I'm the school board president of one of their covered schools and we do everything we can to support their students. No organization means more to our family because of the massive impact they’re making.
Thank you so much for your consideration on behalf of the future leaders of Chicago in the 72 BSF schools.
