Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia is an independent 501(c)(3) that helps launch motivated and educationally underserved middle school students on a path to top choice high schools, setting a critical foundation for college and career success. We also recruit college students to teach in our program, building a pathway for diverse, talented educators. Our program is located on the campus of Germantown Friends School.
For Breakthrough Scholars: Our year-round academic and co-curricular enrichment program runs tuition-free for middle school students in public, parochial, and charter schools in Philadelphia. Scholars study math, science, reading, and writing and receive a co-curricular, high school prep and life skills enrichment program that fosters their love of learning and commitment to succeed in education.
For Breakthrough Teaching Fellows: We provide hands-on professional development at GFS, stipends and housing at University of Pennsylvania. Teaching Fellows are currently enrolled college students and empower their middle school students as lead classroom teachers. All the while bolstering their own future careers through an immersive and meaningful internship at Breakthrough.
Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia is an independent 501(c)(3) committed to equity and diversity in education. Since our founding in 1995, we have served over 1,600 Scholars and 450 teachers-in-training ("Teaching Fellows").
