Equal Access Public Media builds better news!

In 2025 and 2026, it's time to build better news.

In August 2025, Equal Access Public Media starts our second year as part of the Alternative Newsweekly Foundation family. In November, EAPM celebrates the second anniversary of our founding. What a better way to celebrate than to build accessible news.

What does EAPM do?

Introducing the National Tab.

Equal Access Public Media will launching a brand new news outlet called the National Tab. But we need your help to get started.

The National Tab will be unlike any news outlet currently serving the U.S. market:

  • No paywalls.
  • No big corporate or techbro owners.
  • No ads.
  • Serving the interest of the news audience.
  • Every news story in video, audio, text, sign language and with a breakdown in simplified English for those who have low literacy skills.
  • The news packaged on the website can easily be posted to social media. For example, video can post to YouTube and TikTok; audio can post on Spotify and Apple Podcasts; the simplified English can post as a graphic on Instagram; and links to the text article can post to Bluesky.
  • Facts, not misinformation.
  • The news you really want and need — where you need it.

Your donation helps build accessible news.

Can small donations really make an impact? Absolutely.

Whether it's a one-time gift or a regular contribution, it really matters.

Small donations add up. If 5,000 people each give $10, we'll reach our target!

Why make news accessible?

Many people miss out on news.

  • 28.7% of Americans have disabilities, with some disabilities affecting their ability to access traditional news formats.
  • 50% have chronic illnesses impacting sight, hearing, or understanding.
  • 54% read at a 6th-grade level or lower; 20% are illiterate. But journalists write at an 8th-grade level, making news less accessible.

But in 2025, most news sites still had accessibility problems — some as small as missing alt text and color contrast errors, while some were completely inaccessible.

We also want to grow journalism jobs. If we raise $50,000, the National Tab can give freelance journalists the opportunity to work for a month. If we raise $500,000 or more, the National Tab can start hiring full-time journalists.

Your grassroots donation goes to the heart of our mission: accessible news. Thank you for being part of it!

Why trust EAPM to build a better news outlet? EAPM's mission is all about making news and newsrooms more accessible. And EAPM is fiscally sponsored by the Alternative Newsweekly Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, so every penny is accounted for by a trusted partner who has backed independent watchdog news projects since 2002.

No one will ever own EAPM. No one will ever stop EAPM from pursuing our mission. EAPM will always be here for the public education, for accessibility, and for news.
