Richard Meister's Story

I hope you all are happy and healthy and survived our wild and crazy 2020. Things are great in Dallas. I started a new business and continue my busy non-profit “career,” including my 4th Season as a Coach for BvB Dallas.

Last year presented some significant challenges to be sure, but BvB wasn’t about to pause our efforts. Organizations like ours couldn’t afford to take a year off. While 2020 complicated a lot of things – no in-person events, limited volunteer opportunities, and no football game(!), thanks to the generosity of people like you, we raised over $250,000, bringing the organization’s fundraising total to more than $5M all-time. As a Coach, it was a big year for me as well. Thanks to your support, I was able to raise nearly $10,000 and was named the Top Fundraiser. Based on my efforts – and your support, I joined BvB Dallas’ Top 10 Fundraisers of all-time.

These achievements and the work we do for our beneficiaries would not have been possible without the support of great people like you. While BvB may have had to change how we do things last year, we were still able to do great work and hit some milestones, and we are ramping up for a big 14th year. As you may recall, I’m involved in honor of my Grandfather, Col. William B. Liddicoet, who lost his life to the disease in 2015 after a 10-year battle. He was one of the finest people I’ve ever known and doing this in his memory is a privilege. This year, my goal is to raise $12,000, bringing my lifetime total to $45K.

This is a fantastic organization. If a non-profit can motivate over 200 young professionals to devote their time, energy, and passion to such a great cause even during a global pandemic, it's doing something right. This is a labor of love for me, and it’s such a pleasure to see how we are helping fight Alzheimer’s Disease. One of our beneficiaries is the Clinical Neuropsychology Alzheimer’s Fellowship at UT Southwestern, a group breaking new ground in treating, managing, and slowing the disease. They have developed a treatment that is a real game-changer for Alzheimer’s Treatment and is now used at UT Southwestern and other medical centers across the States. Seeing our efforts support something so amazing has been very rewarding.

UT Southwestern Medical Center    BvB will continue our partnership with UT Southwestern through funding the Clinical Neuropsychology Alzheimer’s Fellowship, an intensive 2-year program which provides an opportunity to rapidly develop expertise in the differential diagnosis and treatment of dementia. The BvB Fellow will be involved in research related to risk factors for developing Alzheimer’s, factors that affect disease progression, and study of novel treatments, with the goal of advancing the science of the disease.

We are also supporting the next phase of a novel study at UT Southwestern to diagnose and treat Alzheimer’s disease. This study has shown that focused ultrasound can temporarily and safely open the blood-brain barrier to deliver therapeutic agents to treat Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers are working to optimize the delivery of diagnostic and therapeutic agents to more accurately detect and treat the disease.

Organizations that treat and care for Alzheimer's patients are invaluable. This disease affects so many and the support of everyone is needed and invaluable. The fundraising dollars generated by BvB Dallas are doing a lot of good, and I would appreciate any help you can offer in our efforts to fight this disease.

We accept both online and physical contributions. You can donate to me directly at this link. Of course, if you’d prefer to send a check, that’s okay, too. Please make them out to “BvB Dallas” and send them to:
