What is the project?

The proposed project will supply clean water in an environmentally sustainable way to a population of over 1100 households, 3 schools, in 3 villages with a total of 39 public taps.

Problem Statement:

Currently, Buhoma, Kanyamisinga, and Mukongoro are the rural regions bordering Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (home of endangered mountain gorillas), and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Southwestern parts of Uganda Kanungu district. In these mountainous villages, there are very limited clean water sources. Most of the water for domestic use is collected by women, girls, and young boys. The women and children walk I.5 hour to 2.5hours to go to collect water on average each day. This has resulted in social issues such as domestic violence (if local men find no water available in the home), school dropouts, water borne diseases, and teenage pregnancy (youth having long periods of time away from the home), among other challenges.
