The Final Item has been a cherished BYHO tradition for many years. It is one of the most meaningful moments of the evening—watching our community come together with such heartfelt generosity. This special item remains within our school, serving as a daily reminder of the love and support that surrounds our students and staff.

This year's final item is inspired by the rich tradition of barn quilts found throughout rural Ohio. This cross reflects a heritage of faith, craftsmanship, and community.

For generations, barn quilts have adorned barns and homesteads as symbols of unity and identity—each piece carefully placed, each pattern telling a story, and each design representing the people who call that place home.

In this same spirit, this cross has been created for Notre Dame Schools. Each tile bears the name of a current student—from preschool through high school—representing the many individuals who together form one faith-filled community. While each name stands on its own, it is in their coming together that something greater is revealed.

These individual pieces unite to form the cross, the central symbol of our Catholic faith and a reflection of Christ’s love, sacrifice, and presence among us. It is a visible reminder that Christ is at the heart of all we do, and that each student holds a meaningful place within this community.

Placed within the new elementary school, this cross will serve not only as a work of art, but as a lasting testament to belonging, unity, and shared purpose. Like the barn quilts that inspired it, it honors both tradition and those who carry it forward—rooted in faith, strengthened by community, and shaped by every student whose name it holds.
