2026 Hay Fund
Each year we jump at the call and chase the baler in the fields. Loading, stacking, hauling and unloading into the sanctuary's barn loft and hay storage buildings. We handle thousands of square bales a season to ensure all the sanctuary residents recieve the best, freshest and healthiest hay possible. 1st cut, 2nd cut and if lucky also 3rd and the occasional 4th cuts of hay. Starting end of May right up through September or later depending on fall weather. We must stock up on small square bales and also large round bales. We typically feed out almost 400 round bales a year. Because hay prices change year to year we must budget high, but please know because we do all the hard work to keep our costs low vs those who must truck in loads of hay at a premium. We tend to save the sanctuary anywhere from 3 to even 8 dollars a bale because we do the manual labor and trailoring. That math adds up quick!
