Most importantly, 40 hours could change the life of a person with disabilities or an older adult aging in place in your community.

For forty years, the National Volunteer Caregiving Network (NVCN) has been connecting seniors and people with disabilities to nearly 1,000 local organizations across the country that provide volunteer caregiving services.

Volunteers make this work possible. You, too, can make a difference with your time and talents, while making a meaningful impact to neighbors in your community.

What is volunteer caregiving?

Many seniors and individuals with mobility challenges can manage daily tasks on their own, but they may still need a helping hand with physically challenging chores and home maintenance, such as unloading groceries, changing a light bulb, or taking out the trash. Volunteer caregiving provides this help and enables an older adult to live more independently in the comfort of their home, while enriching both of your lives.

What is “40 for 40”?

This year marks the 40^th anniversary of neighbors helping neighbors through the National Volunteer Caregiving Network. An estimated 350,000 volunteers are currently serving this mission across the country. In celebration of 40 years, NVCN is recruiting new volunteer caregivers to give one hour per week over 40 weeks, with the goal of reaching ONE MILLION hours of service by the end of 2024, as part of our 40th Anniversary celebration.

Become a volunteer

It does not cost any money to volunteer! By simply sharing their friendship and time, volunteers enrich the lives of adults aging alone.

Complete this form to sign up for the "40 for 40" challenge.
NVCN will connect you with the organization closest to you. The local office team will assist you with the onboarding process which may require some degree of background check.
NVCN will have a toolbox with social media posts that you can use to share your volunteer story and milestones with your friends. Encourage them to volunteer, too!
As a thank you, we'll send you a commemorative t-shirt and cap to wear during your volunteer commitment. These Goodies come with your $40 registration payment.
Once you have completed at least 40 hours of service, we'll send you a tote bag as a token of appreciation for your service.

Our yummy heather grey tshirt is a blended fabric that runs true to size. We paired it with an embroidered cap that features the Faith in Action logo on the front and our website, nvcnetwork.org, on the back. These will be sent to you within about one month of signing up. Toward the end of 2024 as our 40 for 40 Challenge winds down, we'll send a canvas tote bag as a thank you gift for completing the challenge. We hope you'll continue to volunteer as you build local relationships in your community. NVCN is grateful to Industry Horror in Ventura, California for assisting us in finding quality materials within our $40 budget. Over the course of the 40 for 40 Challenge, if any item (tshirt, cap or tote becomes unavailable, we will be working to replace that item with one of similar and matched quality.
