VALA PRESENTS: GOODNIGHT SUZIE FEATURING NORTHWEST SINFONIA

Our mission is to strengthen the music & arts community within our local area through the collaborations of a multitude of artists and fundraisers. Together, Goodnight Suzie along with VALA and The Northwest Sinfonia will combine our talents, industry connections and originality. This special fundraiser will cover the costs of a recording / video session of (5) Goodnight Suzie original songs featuring the N.W. Sinfonia and create a VALA scholarship awarded to a valued artist or artists. By empowering others we empower ourselves to produce beautiful music that will reach millions, bringing hope and light to the world.

We will devote multiple events to this project including:

Filming and recording - May 7th & 8th, 2023 Bastyr College inside of the St. Thomas Chapel
VALA Gala/Goodnight Suzie Live Performance Bakes Place Sunday May 21st, 2023 4pm-8pm
Vinyl Release Party Live performance - Fall 2023

Who's VALA?

VENUES FOR ARTISTS IN THE LOCAL AREA

VALA was founded in 2010 by Jessica Kravitz and John Lambert. VALA creates partnerships with local businesses and organizations to create non-traditional venues for artists. VALA’s mission to connect artists to artists, artists to the community, and the community to art is achieved by featuring local artists who are interested in connecting to the community in meaningful ways. VALA connects artists to artists through the VALA Artist to Artist Series, which spotlights featured artists to discuss their inspiration and process with other artists and is open to the local community. VALA further connects the community to artists by facilitating events and programs that invites community members to create art alongside featured artists.

Who's this symphony you speak of?

The Northwest Sinfonia is a session symphonic orchestra based in Seattle, mostly renowned for recording soundtracks to motion pictures and computer games. It was founded in 1995 and is credited with over 100 recordings.

It draws its members mostly from the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, and Pacific Northwest Ballet orchestras. An additional chorus is added if required. (as the Northwest Sinfonia and Chorale). David Sabee is the organization's music director and executive director.

Who's this band that you may already know of :) ?

“Goodnight Suzie” is the singer/songwriter indie-pop duo Suzie and Ben Bradford who began playing music together in Spokane in 1999. This wife and husband team emerged from the popular cover band “The Side Project” who recorded 7 albums and have performed thousands of shows across the PNW. Established and performing in the east side area of Seattle since 2004, they also have music featured on shows “Dancing With The Stars,” “The BBC London,” and “So You Think You Can Dance” as well as having songs broadcast in Starbucks. Their debut original album “Boombox” (2019) received a rave review in Music Connection Magazine and brings you up-tempo, hand clapping, singalong pop tunes mixed with captivating emotional ballads. For several months after its release, the album received play on major radio stations nationwide.

Who will compose all of these orchestral arrangements to our original songs?

Andrew Joslyn, composer, orchestrator, and violinist is an award-winning musical polymath whose passion for collaboration has led him to work with a remarkably diverse group of world-class artists, touring the world, performing, co-writing and arranging music on over 400 songs throughout his career.

Along the way he has amassed an extensive list of writing, orchestrating, recording and touring credits that include: Macklemore, Kesha, Judy Collins, Leslie Odom Jr., Kygo, ODESZA, K Flay, Chase Rice, Tom Chaplin (Keane), Nancy Wilson (Heart), Duff McKagan (Guns N Roses), The Seattle Symphony, and many many others.

He currently runs his own production studio in Seattle, leads the Passenger String Quartet, and has scored several feature length films, and writes music for artists, labels, podcasts, music licensing houses, and commercials. He is also a national trustee for the PNW chapter of the Recording Academy (Grammys), and a local advocate for music and the arts on the West Coast.
