Sioux City, Iowa – High school graduation is an exciting time for seniors, yet the milestone can also be a costly one. Sioux City Public Schools Foundation is working towards lessening the burden on Sioux City’s class of 2024 through its Adopt a Grad program.

Adopt a Grad raises funds to cover the expense of caps, gowns, and tassels for financially challenged students in the Sioux City Community Schools’ three high schools: West High School, North High School, and East High School. With only a $50 gift, Siouxlanders can cover the cost of graduation essentials for one graduating senior in the District. All donations are 100 percent tax deductible.

Seniors will receive their caps, gowns, and tassels in time for graduation day on either Monday, May 20^th (North), Tuesday, May 21^st (West), or Wednesday, May 22^nd (East), at the Tyson Events Center. Approximately 900 students graduate annually from the Sioux City Community School District. Once graduation ceremonies have ended, graduating seniors can pay it forward by donating their caps and gowns to future graduating seniors. The Sioux City Public Schools Foundation will have a donation box located inside the Tyson Events Center venue for donated caps, gowns, and tassels following graduation ceremonies listed above and during the month of February. Outside of the month of February and graduation dates listed above, former graduates may bring their caps, gowns, and tassels to their former Sioux City Public High School or to the district building located at 627 4th Street in downtown Sioux City.
