Harmony New Beginnings Animal Rescue isn’t your standard dog or cat rescue. In fact, our story began with a horse. In 2006, HNBAR’s founder, Joy Laudahl, stepped in to help a grieving widow care for her late husband’s horse. That moment changed everything and the calls for help didn’t stop. In August 2011, HNBAR became a nonprofit and we’ve rescued more than 2,000 animals.

At Harmony New Beginnings, we’re an entirely volunteer-run nonprofit. No one takes a salary here because it’s important that we take care of the animals – body, mind, and spirit. We are powered by the generosity of donors from our fundraising efforts. We also work closely with local Animal Control officers, shelters, and hospice programs to rescue animals that would otherwise be left to be euthanized. Without our rescue, many of these animals would face slaughter or ongoing neglect.

Animals come to us with deep physical and emotional wounds. Some are seized from cruelty cases, while others are surrendered due to illness, poverty, or end-of-life circumstances. Every animal is given the care, compassion, and second chance they deserve.

We’ve taken in horses, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, chickens, roosters, pheasants, a variety of exotic birds, hedgehogs, and much more. If there’s an animal in need, we will help. We are the voice for the voiceless and understand that while we can’t save them all, we can save as many as we possibly can, but this work can only be done with the support from donors.
