After 25 years of constant use, Pella Cinemas is showing its age. As the only movie theater in Pella, upgrades are needed to ensure it remains a part of the fabric of Pella:

Seating is outdated, worn, and increasingly uncomfortable for families and older adults.
Carpet is 25 years old and needs replacement for both appearance and safety.
Stair lighting is outdated and must be improved for accessibility and safety.
New concession stand to provide more space for expanded offerings and better functionality.

To remain competitive with nearby theaters such as Trio in Oskaloosa, Copper Creek in Pleasant Hill, and the multiplexes in Altoona and at Jordan Creek Mall, Pella Cinemas must modernize. Without these upgrades, the community risks losing more than a movie theater, it risks losing a place for families, students, and residents to gather, as the current financial performance is not sustainable long-term. This project is symbolic of Central College's and the Community Betterment Organization's efforts to pull the community together to invest and help ensure long-term viability for generations to come. This collaboration is another great example of Central's Imagine More initiative for the community of Pella.

Project Goals & Objectives

Replace back stadium seating in all three auditoriums with modern reclining leather seats to enhance comfort, accessibility, and appeal for children, families, and faith-based audiences.
Install new carpet to create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Upgrade stair lighting for improved safety and accessibility, especially for children and older adults.
Replacing concession stand with a more functional and expanded space to better serve customers
Provide ability for customers to reserve specific seats on-line prior to arriving at the theater. This will be a new feature of the Pella Cinemas.
Strengthen local retention by offering an updated, competitive cinema experience that keeps residents in Pella for entertainment.
Create long-term financial sustainability for Pella Cinemas by being able to compete with neighboring movie theaters and increasing revenue.
