I am honored to present the work of my uncle, Mark Kahnke, who dedicated his effort and talent to create this marvelous piece of art in support of Gateway Meadows. Here are some insights from Mark himself.

My daughter, Kara, was born with a physical disability. Kara has benefited immeasurably from several therapeutic equine programs, so I have a close connection with nonprofit equine assisted services. After visiting Gateway Meadows, I was deeply inspired by what I saw, and wanted to create an art piece that honors the work of, and partnership with, the beautiful horses at Gateway Meadows. That inspiration led to the birth of “Domino”.

As a singer, guitar player, and artist, I created an art piece using a particular technique – the use of colorful guitar picks. From my imagination, and 2,000 guitar picks, Domino became a well-adorned pinto who seems fascinated by we mere humans. You might ask yourself, “What is he thinking?” Maybe he’s asking, “How do I look?” Or the more direct, “You talkin’ to me?”

Taking an even closer look, you may find the musical instrument that inspired me to create this piece of art.

I hope he finds a good home with a horse lover, a musician or someone who believes, as I do, that Gateway Meadows provides a valuable service.
