Schreit Immer Noch (Still Screaming) - Parker Pfister 2024

In this series of photographic arts, Pfister explores the confluence of nature and the human condition to uproot the questions of balance, tenacity, fragility and existence. 'The Scream', painted by Edvard Munch in 1893 was inspired by a blood red sunset and the anxiety it produced within him. He recalled in his journal that he sensed an "infinite scream passing through nature" and fell ill. 131 years later the scream and expressionism continues, inspiring these pieces. Having worked on his ongoing project of over 20 years on humankind's environmental impact, Pfister combined his research, knowledge and narrative with a more expressionistic approach, yielding an undeniable urge to pause, study, reflect and question. The pieces are printed to Museum quality, mould made paper with pigmented inks, acrylic inks, gilding and etching. You will see a common embellishment of gold throughout this series. It will guide both your own curiosity and wonder.

Parker J Pfister (b.1968) is an American artist working primarily in the photographic arts. Abiding by the idea that “adversity is the mother of invention,” Pfister routinely brings an unconventional approach to a photograph. He is at home in both film and digital mediums and pushes each with lighting, exposure and his alternative processing to give birth to a photograph yet to be discovered.

Two of Pfister’s images were selected by the Lucie Foundation to hang in an unprecedented 100 image group exhibition at the United Nations’ COP 21 in Paris, France. Those images would go on to the C40 Mayors summit in Mexico City, “Beyond the Air We Breathe” at The Royal Photographic Society in Bangkok, Thailand, and “The Climate Smart Evolution” in Bologna, Italy. Together, these images have reached millions, creating a visceral experience of what climate change means to us and to our homelands.
