In a school of over 1200 children, many young girls are missing class, not because they don’t want to learn, but because they don’t have a safe, private place to go to the bathroom.

Hi, my name is Brianna Kivugo. I’m a 16-year-old high school student and the founder of Beads for Life.

While raising awareness about period poverty, I learned about an urgent need that deeply impacted me. The elementary school my mom attended in first grade that located in her rural home village in Tanzania is still serving hundreds of students today, yet it lacks a safe and decent toilet.

For girls who are beginning puberty, this reality is heartbreaking. Without proper facilities, many are forced to stay home during their periods simply because they don’t have privacy or dignity. A toilet with doors and a safe space can mean the difference between continuing their education or falling behind.

I knew I had to take action.

My goal is to raise $4,000 to help build a girls’ toilet at this school. Through the sale of my handmade bracelets, I’ve already raised $450, but I need your help to raise the remaining funds and make this project a reality.
