Join Us in Supporting Clean Water Access for Communities in Chattogram, Bangladesh

Access to clean water and sanitation is something many of us take for granted—but for many families around the world, it’s a daily struggle. Right now, over 2 billion people around the world do not have access to clean and safe drinking water, and approximately 3.6 billion people lack access to piped water, toilets, and showers in their homes. This affects every part of their lives, from health to education to economic opportunities.

The Water1st Youth Advocates, a group of passionate students from 7th to 12th grade, are stepping up to make a difference—and you can join them. These young leaders are raising awareness and funds to build a comprehensive water and sanitation system that will provide households with clean, running water and safe facilities.

Why This Project Matters

Residents living in informal settlements in Chattogram have no legal access to public water supply or sewer systems. Adding to the crisis is the rapid increase in urban populations in Bangladesh: 150,000-400,000 new residents arrive each year from rural areas seeking a better life for their families. In these settlements, renters are forced to buy water of unknown quality at very expensive rates or wait in long lines at shared communal water stations. There are also no sewer pipes in these neighborhoods, so waste from ‘open’ toilets flows right through the community, making living conditions extremely unhygienic, and sanitary toilets a high priority.
