I grew up cruising with my family and pretent racing (i.e. stealing another boat's wind). I always wanted to race & joined the DSC when I moved to Baltimore. Through another DSC member, I met the owner of Dark Crystal and sailed on is boat in this regatta for the first time in ~2016. I served on the DSC race council for 3 years, was asked by the Executive Director on the organization's COVID-19 protocols in 2020, and raised $6,000 in donations and grant money in 2021. This regatta raises money for low income children to be introduced to sailing, adolescents to be trained as sailing camp counselors, and for a weekly on the water program for people with disabilities. The organization's mission is "sailing is for all" and as someone with a few injuries, I can personally say that the DSC has been accomodating of my own needs, allowing me to keep racing since I very badly hurt my wrist in 2021.
