Help Us Save Mothers and Newborns in Lagos, Nigeria

In Lagos, Nigeria, the maternity ward can be the place where joy begins, but for too many families, it is also where fear takes hold.

A mother arrives ready to give birth, hoping for a safe delivery and the chance to hold her baby close. A newborn enters the world needing immediate care, warmth, oxygen, monitoring, and protection. In those first fragile moments, access to proper maternal and neonatal support can mean everything.

At African Women’s Health Project International (AWHPI), we are working on the ground in Lagos to help strengthen the Neonatal ICU and maternal clinics that serve mothers and babies during their most vulnerable hours. Our team is committed to helping complete a critical project that will improve care in the mothers’ and babies’ ward, but we urgently need help to finish what we started.

We are seeking $25,000 to complete this life-giving work.

For many families in Lagos, quality maternal and newborn care remains out of reach when they need it most. Hospitals and clinics often face overwhelming demand, limited resources, and urgent needs that cannot wait. When equipment, support systems, and clinical resources are incomplete, mothers and infants bear the weight of that gap.

For more than two decades, AWHPI Global Foundation has worked to improve the lives of women, children, and families across Africa and the diaspora. Founded by HRH Princess Dr. Moradeun Ogunlana, our U.S.-based nonprofit has remained focused on health equity, compassionate care, and practical solutions that change lives where the need is greatest.

Today, that mission is centered in Lagos, where every contribution can help complete a project designed to support mothers in labor, protect newborns in crisis, and strengthen the care environment for families depending on these services.
