Dear Friends and Family of Miles Barger:

I write to request your support for our dear friend Miles, his wife Mary, and three-year-old son Chet. Miles recently suffered a life-threatening injury when he fell from a hammock near his home on July 20. The fall resulted in a spinal cord injury causing traumatic paralysis. Miles was life-flighted to Idaho Falls where he underwent stabilization surgery. He is currently in the ICU at East Idaho Regional Medical Center His wife, Mary, is with him. Chet remains at home, where relatives are caring for him. Miles will require a long recovery in the ICU followed by a lengthy rehabilitation. The full nature of the damage is not yet known. Although Miles is making good progress, it is early in the process. He is blessed by the love and support of his family who are caring for his needs and those of his young family.

This fund is for providing financial support for Miles, Mary, and Chet as they face the daunting task of recovery and rehabilitation. The disruption to their family is and will be enormous. Much remains unknown except that the family will need to relocate one or more times as Miles’ recovery progresses. The family will incur costs and expenses that will put a strain on their limited resources.

Miles has dedicated his personal and professional life to public service. He is a loving husband, doting father, cherished son, nephew, cousin, and friend to us. Miles sees the wonder in people, places, and animals. He connects with all of them intuitively with a grace and love that is unnerving and disarming. He connects us to himself, to nature, and to each other. Mary is his equal. She is honest, loving, and kind to all who cross her path.

Miles and Mary would never ask for your support. I, however, can and will ask. Miles and Mary are special people. They are, in many ways, the best of us. I have lived long enough to recognize the beauty of their spirits and minds and the enormous value they add to the lives of the many people they touch.

Funds raised will be used to assist Miles and his family with food, housing, transportation, and the many bills and costs during this trying time.
