Meet Shauna:

When I started running just over 2 years ago, I never envisioned myself training for a full marathon. Growing up just over the Hudson River in NJ, when I decided to run a marathon, I knew that I wanted NYC to be my first.

Through working with people with multiple disabilities at Camp Sunshine in Ridgewood, NJ I found my passion to be an occupational therapist and spent my first year in practice working in Manhattan.

I am running with Therapists Beyond Borders because I believe that access to healthcare services across the lifespan and spectrum of abilities is a right. I am thrilled to support this cause in my training and running of the New York Marathon.

Meet TBB:

Therapists Beyond Borders trains therapists, families, and caregivers of individuals with disabilities in under-resourced communities around the world. Disability legislation and rehabilitation programs are commonly under-resourced, especially in developing countries. As a result, millions of people who require therapy do not receive adequate treatment. Our goal: extend the privilege of advanced clinical training to therapists, families, and caregivers in countries with underfunded healthcare systems.

Our mission is to foster self-sustaining, locally run therapy education programs that build community capacity to provide skillful care for their most vulnerable members. Our vision is a world where individuals of all abilities can reach their own unique potential, and where all communities, despite the unequal distribution of global resources, still have the capacity to care for their own.
