Our team is made up of 51 hardworking and dedicated brothers who want to leave ALS better than we found it!

Phi Delta Theta is a brotherhood and fraternity located throughout the United States and Canada. Like all fraternities and sororities, part of our purpose is to fundraise and support an important cause. At Sonoma State University, Phi Delta Theta has held their annual event, Teeter-Totter, in memory of one of our Sonoma State brothers who had cystic fibrosis. This event will continue in the fall, but in honor of Phi Delt brother Lou Gehrig, we are introducing a spring event to bring awareness to ALS and support the Live Like Lou Foundation, Phi Delta Theta's charitable partner.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS is currently 100% fatal. And we want to do something about it.

Lou Gehrig was a famous professional baseball player and fellow Phi Delt. He was a symbol of indestructibility and dubbed the “Iron Horse” of baseball. After his diagnosis, retirement, and passing at the young age of 37, the diagnosis of his disease helped to put a spotlight on the condition, and in the years since his passing ALS has been known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Lou lived his life with courage, determination, and gratitude, and this is what it means to Live Like Lou.

Since Lou’s passing in 1941, Phi Delts all over the world have put on fundraisers every year to raise money to try and find treatments or cures for ALS. Our goal is to be a part of this fight against ALS and leave it better than we found it just like all of our other brothers across Phi Delt Nation.

About the Live Like Lou Foundation
The Live Like Lou Foundation was established in 2017 as a national nonprofit with a vision to leave ALS better than we found it. Named in honor of MLB Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig, a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Live Like Lou supports ALS families, funds emerging researchers seeking meaningful treatments and cures for ALS, and helps generate awareness of Lou Gehrig’s disease. In the face of his ALS diagnosis, Lou Gehrig continued to live his life with courage, determination, and gratitude... this is what we mean when we say, Live Like Lou.
