The Campfire Project believes deeply in the power of the arts to heal. Since 2017, we have brought that belief to displaced communities in Greece, Moldova, and Uganda, and most recently to newcomers right here in New York City. This summer, we're bringing it to western Ukraine.

We will spend two weeks with 50 children, many displaced by the ongoing Russian invasion and all of them growing up in the shadow of a war that has touched every part of their lives. In a region where mental health support is scarce, we want to give these kids something simple but profound: a reason to smile, to laugh, to play, and to just be kids for a little while. We go in as artists and therapists. We dance, sing, paint, tell stories, walk on stilts, and create together. Before we come home, we will train 20 local educators and social workers in creative arts therapy approaches so the work continues long after we leave. It is not a solution to war. But it is one of the most human responses to it.
