Imagine your child not being able to participate in summer camp because of their illness.
The harsh reality is that many of our campers would normally be unable to enjoy a traditional camp experience. Children with cancer and sickle cell disease require special medical personnel on site and accessibility considerations for physical limitations caused by their disease and/or its treatment. In addition, camp provides the knowledge that you are not alone in your fight which can decrease fear and anxiety and help them develop coping strategies after treatment by seeing how others deal with their struggle. It’s truly a life-changing experience for patients who are stuck in a hospital most of the time or left out of school activities because of physical, cognitive, or mental health limitations.
