Story
Haiti has the world’s highest incidence of cervical cancer. Despite the virus being easily treatable, an estimated 1,500 Haitian women die annually from the disease. The high mortality rate of cervical cancer in Haiti is often attributed to a lack of access to screening and preventative care. For example, there are only four pathologists in Haiti– a country of 10 million people– available to provide cervical cancer screening.
Consequently, most women in the southern district have never heard of nor have they been screened for cervical cancer. HPV screening is an integral component of reducing the risk of cervical cancer for women. capracare offers “See & Treat” screening to detect cervical cancer in its pre-cancerous state while it is still treatable.
