CASA of Central Texas recruits, trains and supports volunteer advocates to speak on behalf of children in foster care who have experienced abuse or neglect. CASA is part of a nationwide organization of Court Appointed Special Advocates with more than 900 chapters, and more than 79,000 volunteers serving hundreds of thousands of children annually. CASA of Central Texas was established in 1985 and serves Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Hays counties. Our program serves as Guardian ad Litem (Texas Family Code Section 107.001) to represent the best interests of a child. As Guardian ad Litem, CASA has access to the child’s records to the same extent as a parent.

The CASA provides the judge with a carefully researched background of the child to help the court make a sound decision about the child’s future. The advocate must determine the emotional, physical, and educational needs of the child. The advocate makes a recommendation about placement to the court and follows through until the case is permanently resolved. The CASA’s role is:
– To be a factfinder for the judge.
– To lift the voice of the child in court, representing the child’s best interest.
– To monitor the progression of the case, ensuring that the child’s needs are met and the case is resolved swiftly and appropriately.
