Please help Martina raise funds for her Asylum Case!

Martina met with Nadezda Roife from Roife Law Group recently to determine if she actually had a case. Hearing Martina's story of extortion and the murder of two relatives in Ecuador, attorney Roife told Martina that she had a good (but complicated) case for asylum, and that she was prepared to do the work to make it clear to the courts why Martina fits the case for asylum.

$2500 - (complete!) Start legal services to get her legal case assembled and representation registered.

+$1500 - (needed by Feb 1st, complete!) for final lawyer payment to fight for her ability to stay in the US as an asylum-seeker

Martina entered the United States of America in 2024 seeking asylum due to violence and death threats from corrupt local authorities because she couldn't keep up with the extortion payments. After the loss of loved ones and a harrowing journey, she entered the US border and was documented in the US system. With the help of neighbors, she filed her application for asylum without any legal support. She was interviewed by USCIS and sent to removal proceedings. At her initial appearance at the federal court (where the judge was pretty dismissive of the Spanish-speaking attendees at the recent court appearance), she was given a 9 month continuance to find legal representation who can argue her case.

About Martina:

Martina is a highly educated Ecuadorean Christian whose people are of indigenous and mixed African descent from the Esmeraldas province. She owned a business and worked as a teacher prior to the extortion and her fleeing the works violence. She is eager to work and make a new life in America.

About the fundraiser:

My name is David, and I'm a member of Seed House, a small community house in the Phillips neighborhood. We are fiscally a non-profit and are helping collect the funds to Martina's case. I met Martina last year when she moved into a duplex I help manage, and this year she has joined in the hosting rotation of the weekly Spanish-speaking dinners and Bible studies with other neighbors. It's been a privilege to know her, know her story, and accompany her in her immigration journey.
