Cancer first become a household term when my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1998 while I was in college. She survived colon cancer only to lose her battle to ovarian cancer in 2000. Since then I've lost 2 maternal aunts and a paternal uncle to cancer.
In 2020, in the midst of Covid-19, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and began treatment. I underwent a mastectomy with reconstructive surgery in July of 2020. I am happy to say that I've been in remission ever since thanks to the wonderful doctors and the treatment that UM Sylvester provided.
As time continues, more and more people that I know have been diagnosed with cancer. I hope to raise funds and awareness about this disease that effects so many people and families.
