In 2013, at a time when collaboration across congenital heart disease (CHD) centers was uncommon, Drs. Christopher Petit and Bryan Goldstein launched a two-center study examining balloon dilation for congenital aortic valve stenosis. What began as a small partnership quickly demonstrated the power of shared data and collective expertise.

Building on that early success, the collaboration expanded to include two additional centers to study pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum. These early projects made clear that meaningful progress in CHD care required working together across institutions rather than in isolation.

Recognizing this, the group formally established the Congenital Cardiac Research Collaborative (CCRC) in 2015 with a shared commitment to multicenter research, transparency, and improvement in outcomes for children with congenital heart disease.

Since then, CCRC has grown to include 17 U.S. centers and has expanded beyond interventional cardiology to engage all subspecialties involved in CHD care. Today, the CCRC serves as a national effort focused on rigorous outcomes research, clinical innovation, and real-time quality improvement, bringing clinicians and institutions together to accelerate progress and improve the lives of children and families affected by congenital heart disease.
