This year we are presenting "Aranya Katha" a performance featuring over 140 kathak and tabla student and faculty, with fantastic live musicians. "Aranya Katha" is inspired by the true story of Amrita Devi and villagers who in 1730 in Rajasthan, led a movement to protect the trees. Due to their sacrifice the Maharaja signed a decree declaring that no trees would be felled. This action of nonviolent resistance has inspired movements from Gandhiji to the modern day environmental movement.

By popular demand we will be presenting the acclaimed work by Charlotte Moraga "Invoking the River" with a new piece by Charlotte Moraga, "Vriksh". These amazing performances are part of our Arts for the Planet campaign, expand awareness of kathak through exciting performances with an important message about the climate crisis. Our school provides beginning to professional kathak training, serving the community while training the next generation of kathak dancers. The Chitresh Das Institute presents performances in kathak and the greater Indian classical arts that spark the imagination, and our community-based school and training institution is committed empowering the next generation with the profound pedagogy, philosophy, and approach of kathak icon Pandit Chitresh Das.
