Chesapeake Animal Rescue Mission (CHARM) is a Maryland-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk animals through rescue, medical care, behavioral support, and adoption services.

Originally founded as the Animal Welfare Society of Howard County (AWSHC) in 1944—and officially established as a nonprofit in 1951—our organization has a long-standing legacy of advocacy and care for animals in need. In 2025, we rebranded as CHARM to reflect our renewed vision and commitment to growth, transparency, and community impact.

Today, we offer a range of lifesaving programs including foster and adoption placements, positive-reinforcement training, and accessible veterinary care like low-cost vaccinations and spay/neuter services. We’re also rebuilding our shelter facility to expand our impact and offer a safe, healing space for homeless pets throughout the region.

Together with our passionate volunteers, fosters, and donors, we’re creating a more compassionate world—one rescued life at a time.
