Checkmate for Charity

  Rutherford County Assessor of Property, Rob Mitchell ,today issued a formal challenge to Mayor Joe Carr for a best-two-out-of-three chess match, with proceeds benefiting local youth education programs.

Chess teaches exactly what our young people need: strategic thinking, patience, and grace under pressure.

The proposed match would feature 10-minute time controls per side, ensuring fast-paced, exciting gameplay accessible to spectators of all ages. The loser will donate $1000 to a charity of the winner's choice supporting youth education.

The "Checkmate for Charity" match would serve as the launch event for expanded chess education programs in Rutherford County schools and community centers, teaching conflict resolution and strategic thinking skills through the ancient game.
