Using film to build community and strengthen movements for social justice.
For the past decade, cinéSPEAK has been using film to help build community and strengthen movements for social justice. There’s so little financial support for this kind of work, especially at the local level in Philly.
Over 60% of cinéSPEAK’s budget goes directly into the hands of artists—the filmmakers, moderators, and musicians that make the events so special and the writers who contribute to our journal. And the rest supports the logistics to make it all happen.
In order for cinéSPEAK to continue this work, we need to build a wide base of supporters who can contribute financially to the organization at different levels. Every single dollar is significant. By pooling together our resources we can raise enough money to allow cinéSPEAK to center the needs of artists and social change movements, not just rely on philanthropic foundations.
We recently successfully raised $10,000 for our 10th anniversary; now we’re setting an ambitious goal to raise $15,000 by the end of 2024 to support our ongoing film programming and journal. Together, we can continue to bring independent cinema to new audiences, move resources to artists, and bring people together to strengthen our communities. Let’s build the world we want where artists are valued, and cultural events are accessible to all.
