WHO WE ARE

Claim Our Space Now is a NYC Based and Black-Queer and Immigrant led nonprofit organization (EIN 86-1214774). We are focused on building and mobilizing community power by making activism accessible and dismantling systems of white supremacy through our three tenets: Inform, Inspire, Speak Truth to Power. As an intersectional coalition, we act as a multimedia resource online and on-the-ground to provide aid and empower the Black community.

WHAT WE DO

Since our launch in June 2020, we have created free accessible educational resources, as well as compiled a National Resource Directory that includes information and connections to Black mental healthcare, Queer safe spaces, police abolition, and a dozen other resources saving all Black lives.

We have ignited our Freedom Fighters across the country through our Claim the Vote program to register voters in vulnerable Black and brown communities, as well as saved over $100,000 for those communities by registering people for the 2020 census. We have hosted rallies, created a dozen pop-ups across the nation, and have been featured on NY1, CBS, and Playbill highlighting our campaigns and work.

Redistributed $100,000 in federal funding with Census initiative
Registered 68 community members to vote with Claim the Vote Initiative
Donated over 1000 coats, 4500 PPE Kits, and provided Mutual Aid Resources to NYC community in need at our Resource Pop ups
Re-energized and educated over 350,000 people with our digital Claim the Vote programming with HeadCount.org
Awarded 3 microgrants to Black revolutionary artists making the revolution irresistible
Created national directory with over 1800+ Black life saving resources across the country
Provided LGBTQ+ siblings consistent access to HIV testing, community safety training with AntiViolence Project, free physical and spiritual therapy, free business headshots at our annual Rally for Freedom…and so much more!

Claim Our Food Now:

In 2022, we will begin work on our major initiative Claim Our Food Now to provide consistent community care in the form of food security for NYC Caribbean immigrant families impacted by the threat of deportation. We will donate culturally specific and nutritious foods to support their immediate needs while creating sustainable community programs to educate, motivate, and unionize our neighbors to abolish ICE and prevent further harm for future generations.

Claim Our Resources Now:
In 2020, Claim Our Space Now launched our National Resource Directory (now named Claim Our Resources Now) to connect our intersectional Black community to life saving resources and safe spaces close to home. Since 2021, we have expanded beyond the digital space and onto the block where our neighbors in need are! Help us scale and reach our communities to provide direct and consistent community care with our volunteers and partners.

Our National Resource Directory connects our intersectional Black community to accessible life-saving resources and safe spaces close to home. To date, we are across 38 states, 15+ cities, 1900+ resources, and growing.

Marsha's Closet -

Every 3rd Monday of the month, Claim our Space Now teams up with our partners at STARR to host a donation pop-up in Harlem to provide gender-affirming clothing and other living essentials to our queer and unhoused siblings. We create and distribute FREE neighborhood-specific one-page resources for community members to access partners on the ground doing the work alongside us.
