In June of 2024 I was diagnosed with Clear Cell Sarcoma in my right knee. Clear cell sarcoma is a rare and aggressive cancer that usually forms in soft tissue and there currently is not a cure. My highly regarded team of doctors determined that an above-knee amputation will give me the best chance for long-term survival. My amputation was performed August 6, 2024 at UF Health/Shands Hospital in Gainesville. I was emphatic that my surgeon removed the tissue from the tumor to donate to the Clear Cell Sarcoma Foundation (formerly Sara's Cure). It is my hope that donating the tissue will help researchers develop more effective targeted therapies and improve patient outcomes for years to come.
I am currently 31 weeks post op. With the hard work and dedication of my Prosthetist, Physical Therapist, my family, a tribe of friends and lots of prayers I am doing great. I am back working in the office 5 days a week. I am walking on my own 99% of the time (I keep a walking stick handy in case I will be in a large crowd) I have been out to the range shooting sporting clays with my son and buddies. While everyday may not be easy, I am taking each day “one step at a time” to get back to doing all the things I love to do.
Again, thank you to everyone that has supported me through this journey. Any donations big or small will be beneficial to the Clear Cell Sarcoma Foundation. This will allow for the foundation to continue their dedicated work in finding a cure for this rare and aggressive disease
