Who We Are

The Child's Advocacy Center (CAC) is a safe place for kids who may have been abused. The center brings together a team of specially trained professionals who evaluate and investigate cases of child abuse and help children and their families.

CACs are designed to be child-focused and reduce stress experienced by child survivors of abuse and their non-offending family members throughout the investigation and intervention process. By focusing first on the needs of children and their families, CACs ensure that many important services are provided while improving the quality of investigations.

CACs follow national guidelines developed by the National Children's Alliance. CACs participate in intensive training, on-going peer reviews and a mentorship program to ensure that a high-quality, child-sensitive approach is maintained. CACs partner with legal entities and other community agencies to help ensure accountability of offenders. We offer education and training to promote community awareness and safety.

The Center is designed with children and families in mind. Many of our services are provided in the comfort and convenience of our child-friendly location. Each space is specifically designed to promote comfort and safety. Services we offer to children and families:

What is SHINE?

Led by National Children's Alliance and hosted here in the Keystone State by PennCAC, SHINE fights the stigma of child sexual abuse that survivors often experience. You can visit the state-wide campaign page at penncac.org/SHINE to read stories of overcoming abuse, add your name to our virtual Wall of Support, and learn more about resources for survivors at any point along the healing journey. Together, we can inspire hope for survivors and raise awareness about Children's Advocacy Centers, which provide the local response needed to stop abuse when it happens and help kids heal after trauma.

As part of the SHINE campaign in Pennsylvania, CACs across the state are forming teams for a virtual/remote walk event during the month of September. By getting out into our communities, we want to:

Have fun together and celebrate our CAC community
Let survivors of child sexual abuse know they aren't alone
Spread the word about what CACs do and why it matters so much
Raise important funds to support our ongoing work to stop abuse and help kids heal

2. CLICK HERE TO VISIT OUR STORE AND PRE-ORDER YOUR EVENT T-SHIRT to wear for your walk. The t-shirt is totally optional—just one more fun way to help spread the word! Orders placed by August 17 will arrive by September 7. Adult sizes are $23-$26 and a youth size is available for $21 plus direct shipping to your home address.

3. GET OUTSIDE. There's no set date or time—that's the beauty of a remote/virtual event. Take a walk whenever you want, however you want, with whomever you want. If you order a t-shirt, wear it! Get some great pictures, use the hashtag #WHYWESHINE, and share our team fundraising page in all your event posts.

4. SHARE SHARE SHARE. Did we mention this already? The most important thing you can do is help us spread the word! Tell your friends you'll be walking to support your local CAC in September, and share this page on social media, by email, or text. Ask folks to make a donation to sponsor your walk—they can click "DONATE" and select you from the team roster to credit a gift toward your walk and leave their own message of support on our donor wall.
