Hi! My name is Amy and thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I was diagnosed with Stage III Rectal Cancer in 2020 at the age of 41 after originally being misdiagnosed. My initial treatment included 28 days of radiation and oral chemotherapy, two surgeries with an ileostomy created, followed by 3 months of IV chemo and then a reversal surgery. After I completed all of my treatment, I discovered I had a higher chance of recurrence due to a positive Guardant test and was put on a shorter CT scan interval of 6 months to 3 months. Every scan showed something concerning and kept me in a place of constant fear & had me going to more appointments. About a year and half later in 2023, I learned I had a recurrence showing the cancer metastasized to my pelvic sidewall and lungs. To explain in more simple terms the tumor is wrapped around my sciatic nerve going all the way down my left leg along with tumors, well very small, in both of my lungs. Due to the spread 3 hospitals have told me I’m an unresectable case and that systemic therapy is my only treatment option. I will be climbing in the Smoky Mountains this July with other survivors to show the ‘mountains’ we can overcome together.
