Every year, thousands of pounds of textiles end up in landfills—perfectly good fabric, clothing, and materials that could have been given a second life. Laredo Thrift and Center for Creative Reuse is on a mission to change that.

Right here in Laredo, roughly 40 clothing warehouses regularly dump “unsellable” or excess clothing and textiles into the city landfill. Through our Textile Rescue Program, we collect, sort, and repurpose these discarded materials—keeping them out of landfills and turning them into resources for education, creative reuse, and community impact.

As part of this mission, we’re also launching a pay-by-pound thrift shop, making it easy and affordable for the community to keep still-usable textiles in circulation. Every pound sold means less waste and more opportunity.

Our space isn’t just going to be a thrift store—it’s also going to be a community hub. We will offer:

A community flex space for workshops, free fix-it clinics, clothing swaps, sewing classes, and creativity gatherings.
Affordable vendor space so local makers, artists, and upcyclers have a place to showcase and sell their work without prohibitive fees.

Sustainability is a community effort—and we’re building that community together, right here in Laredo.
