When Eddie Monahan’s family faced a challenge, they found themselves in a situation that many families know all too well—the need for a home that provides more than just shelter, a place that feels safe, comfortable, and welcoming.
It all began with Mama, Eddie’s grandmother, and his aunt Kim. Mama, a kind-hearted woman with a knack for storytelling, and Kim, known for her vibrant personality, had spent years living in a neighborhood they loved, surrounded by friends and memories. But as they got older, their daily routines and needs changed, and they began to face the limitations of their home. Mama’s mobility and Kim’s health required more care and accessibility than their home could provide, leaving the family feeling worried about their well-being.
Eddie and his family knew they had to act. They came together, pooled their resources, and found a modest home in Central New Jersey that could be adapted to meet Mama and Kim’s needs. The house itself was in need of a lot of love—it needed repairs, renovations, and countless safety updates. But Eddie’s family was determined, and with hard work and support from loved ones, they transformed the house into a safe, cozy, and fully accessible haven for Mama and Kim.
Watching how their lives transformed in their new home inspired Eddie. He saw firsthand the power of a safe, accessible space in giving his loved ones independence, comfort, and a renewed sense of joy. Through this experience, he realized that so many people out there needed a home that would meet their unique needs, especially those who require extra care and assistance with daily tasks.
This realization sparked a vision that grew into Colorful Dreams, a nonprofit dedicated to creating supportive homes for people with similar needs. Colorful Dreams’ Homes for Hope projects create affordable, barrier free, and thoughtfully equipped homes for those who, like Mama and Kim, need extra support for their daily activities but want a place to call their own—a space that offers dignity, comfort, and security.
Every donation to Homes for Hope brings Eddie and the Colorful Dreams team one step closer to building homes that offer independence and dignity. “Our family saw the difference a real home made for Mama and Kim. It’s a privilege to help bring that same hope and comfort to others.” Eddie Monahan
