School Community Mutual Aid
Students and their families are facing challenges we could not have imagined at the beginning of the school year. Teachers and staff are working overtime to keep our schools safe.In response, our Longfellow Area neighborhood school is raising funds to provide mutual aid for our school community. Funds are being distributed by the school's PTO to address urgent needs with care and speed.
Update as of April 10, 2026: We have learned through this experience that there is an ongoing, general need within our school community for periodic support. To that end, we are clarifying that these funds will go toward meeting mutual aid needs whether or not the need was directly created by federal immigration action.
We are so grateful to everyone who has provided support and continues to support our amazing community. Thank you!
Update as of Feb 19, 2026: As you'll see in the chart below, our pattern of fund disbursement matches the pattern of requests. We experienced an uptick in requests near the end of January due to rent and utilities coming due. Based on what we hear from families, we anticipate even more requests at the end of February, which will fully deplete our remaining funds by March 1.
So we continue to fundraise while we connect families with food and other urgent needs. Whatever the status of the federal action in MN, our community will continue to feel the effects for weeks and months to come. In solidarity and community, we continue on.
Your financial support, no matter what the amount or where you live, directly supports students and their families. Thank you for standing with our community. 💛
