What started as a project to create space where Congolese girls are able to be mentored and given resources as they navigate high school and explore college options turned into Congolese Youth Connect - now a nonprofit organization committed to working with Congolese youth in the Greater Des Moines Area and beyond through action-led programs, workshops and events focused on education, mentorship, networking and self-advocacy.

We work with Congolese youth of refugee/immigrant backgrounds, who find themselves tackling challenges when navigating the American school system with multi-cultural and multi-lingual backgrounds. We have found that the lack of understanding the American school system, low English skills and cultural barriers often result in our youth's inability to advocate for themselves, their educational or economic goals and communities at large.

Congolese Youth Connect is working hard to change this reality.

​Since 2018 - Congolese Youth Connect has successfully worked with over a 15 students by ensuring we work 1 on1 with them through our mentorship program, and provide workshops, trainings and study sessions through our S.E.E Program throughout their high school careers. We also work to ensure they are supported and connected while they pursue higher education and other career paths.

1. What does donating mean?
Your donation to 2022 Congolese Youth Connect End of the Year Fundraiser represents a shared pledge toward building long-lasting spaces where Congolese youth can thrive. It is a value-aligned promise to empower and allow the young folks to engage in opportunities they otherwise would not have access to.

2. How will a donation champion the cause?
Congolese Youth Connect will continue to connect and provide opportunities to Congolese youth in the state of Iowa through action-led programming focused on education,mentorship, networking and self-advocacy while also developing new relationships and partnerships that provide essential opportunities of growth to the young folks we work with and the organization at large.

With your financial impact, we’ll add more resources such as a full-time programing/community coordinator allowing the organization to place more holistic focus on the inclusion and engagement of the youth, parents/guardians and the school system.
