Mural in honor of Cookie Davis >> Art+PRIDE

In Summer 2024, the Brick Store Museum (BSM) will be premiering the artwork of local trans-artist Cookie Davis (also known as Coleman Davis and Dominique London), in a combined show of unusual, unexpected artists with ties to The Kennebunks. “Bold Visions: The Folk Art of Collyer Bowen and Cookie Davis,” (May 25 – August 31) will spotlight the power of “a person vs. a label,” highlighting the concept that community connectivity can unite and illuminate our humanity.  While rooted in the BSM’s overall commitment to DEAI (Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion), we are excited about the coincidental timing of this exhibit overlapping with PRIDE season.

Sponsoring the spirit of Art+PRIDE > A mural creation in honor of “Cookie” Davis

This mural collaboration will feature the artistic talents of four area exceptional artists, each bringing their unique perspective and experiences to the creation of two larger high-quality framed plywood panels, representing barn doors painted by the late artist Cookie Davis. These doors, comprised of two panels painted by four different artists, will become an asset of the Brick Store Museum which it expects will be re-presented into the future at apropos opportunities.  The result will be a tangible creation that honors the legacy of Cookie’s capacity for connecting with the community via the medium of publicly accessible art.
