Our mission at the Cosmic Leap Foundation is to build communities of support that empower educators to create transformative learning experiences through the lens of space exploration.

Our goal is to bring space STEM programming to 1,000 schools by 2025. But we need your help!

Cosmic Leap has a network of 342 schools in 12 countries who serve over 6,500 students each year. We aim to expand these efforts to reach 1,000 schools by 2025. A donation will:

Provide Space Club kits to high-need schools
Launch an online Space Club Educator's Portal for more accessible resources
Host a Space Colony Competition for students to submit designs of a habitat on the Moon or Mars
Feature diverse professionals during monthly Cosmic Career Chats

Become a Cosmic Champion: Any donation over $500 will be recognized as part of our Cosmic Champions program to include special recognition during our Space Colony Competition and a unique Cosmic Leap pin.

The Impact of Space Club

To date, over 25,000 students have benefited from Space Club programming, monthly Cosmic Career Chats, and an annual Space Colony Competition supported by 72 industry professionals.

While inclusive of all students, Space Club has a proven track record of supporting underserved populations. A 2017 external evaluation of Space Club reported that across the 4 middle schools involved:

47% of students were female
98% of students were Hispanic
90% of students came from low-income families
80% of Space Club participants remained on a STEM track in high school compared to 30% of peers

How it All Began

In 2014, an aerospace engineer left an industry job to join a nonprofit on a mission to keep kids in school. Working with Title I schools in San Antonio, she founded Space Club on the belief that all kids are captured by the wonders of the night sky.

Despite warnings that middle school kids don't go to science clubs, over 60 students packed inside a tiny portable for the first Space Club meeting. That first year, administrators watched in amazement as students launched rockets, designed a colony on Mars, and even deployed a weather balloon to 100,000 feet!

To sustain these efforts, a volunteer board of directors established the Cosmic Leap Foundation as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in March 2023. These efforts are supported by an experienced advisory board of Space Club educators and industry partners.
