Habari Marafiki:
It’s our Countdown to Kenya!
This summer, Caroline, Mario, Annie and I are traveling with my sisters and their children to Western Kenya to volunteer at the Kijana Global Innovation School—a pre-k through 7th grade school serving low income but talented students.
Kijana is a non-profit that works to empower youth through educational development, cross-cultural dialogue, and sustainable and environmentally-friendly economic growth.
We are excited about this once in a lifetime experience because it combines our love of travel, learning about other cultures, and serving others. For one week we will be immersed in the culture of this small community and pitch in where needed around the school and with the children.
Some facts:
17% of the Kenyan population lives below the poverty line (on less than $1.90/day).
The poverty rate in the rural communities is 6.5 times higher than those living in the urban regions. School resources and educational tools are scarce.
Please consider donating so we can help provide greater opportunities to the children and families in rural Kenya! Help us to help them.

Thank you in advance for any and all support.
And if you can’t give financially, please pray for our experience and that the needs of this school community are fulfilled.
Asante is “thank you” in swahili.
Asante,
Kristen and family
