Live to Give: COVID-19 Relief Run

COVID19 has affected nearly everyone and the stay-at-home order has showcased the various inequities in food, transportation and other social constructs in our society on a global scale. Community members are joining together to mitigate the negative implications of the virus and to support those who aren't able to support themselves. Dylan Abrams (Chicago), Vincent Schaffer (New Haven) and Charlotte Lehmann (San Francisco) have organized this event in order to raise funds to support local food pantries. Runners across the US have gathered to run together (remotely) to SUPPORT LOCAL and lend a hand to their communities. Running distances include a 5k, 10k, half-marathon or marathon, and participants can post their results on their respective profiles. Participants must pay $25 to register and raise a minimum of $100. The event will take place (remotely) on Sunday, June 28th at 7:00am. Prior to this date, runners will set individual fundraising goals and work towards reaching their goals byway of support from friends, family, social media or any other methodologies. HELP US IN HELPING OUR COMMUNITIES :) Donations are tax-deductible, as College Ventures - a 501(c)3 - is sponsoring the event.

Charlotte's Story

At the end of April, my friend Nina told me that she was running 100 miles during the month of May. When she told me about this, I immediately decided that it was something that I wanted to do. Throughout the month, I have run different paths, streets and trails in San Francisco. I ran with friends and on my own, finding a new love for running that I did not know I had.

In the middle of my 100-mile month, I realized that I wanted to do something more than just run 100 miles for my own benefit. I knew that running would help both my mental and physical health, but I wanted to raise more awareness and help people that are struggling during these troubling times.

And so, after discussing with my good friend Dylan, we found a way that we could pair running and personal growth with helping those in need. I took my 100-mile journey and used it as the stepping stone to the project we have come up with. I am so excited for our June 21st journey and cannot wait to see how everyone grows throughout this process.
